"Such a good value for money trip. Good communication. Pick up & drop off easy to organise. Hajar was very attentive and was very impressive speaking 3 different languages fluently. Camel & Wiad bikes were great fun. Food was good for this type of busy event. Fire show was good. Visit to cooperative was better than a previous one we had been too but isn’t really necessary but understand why it’s part of the experience. Only disappointment was that I thought we were going to be in the desert to see the sunset. Definitely one of the best value for money experiences we did this holiday."

The Agafay Evening Guide
Agafay Dinner Show: What the Evening Is Really Like
The road out, the timings, what is performed, which evening to pick, and how cold the plateau gets in winter.

An Agafay desert dinner show is an evening, not an expedition: a minibus takes you 31 to 38 km out of Marrakech to a tented camp on the Agafay plateau, you ride a quad and a camel as the sun goes down, then eat a Moroccan dinner while musicians play and a fire show closes the night. You leave in the afternoon and you are back in the city at about 10 pm. Agafay is a stony desert of bare hills, not the Sahara’s sand, and the big camps feed many groups at once. Book it as a lively night out with a view of the Atlas, and it is very good value.

How the evening runs
The featured evening, Marrakech: Agafay Desert Quad & Camel Rides with Dinner Show, starts with a pickup between about 2 pm and 4 pm, from your hotel or one of the operator’s meeting points in the city. If your riad is inside the medina, the minibus cannot reach it, and you are met at the nearest point it can. The road runs south-west past the village of Tameslouht, and the first stop is an argan oil cooperative.

At the camp you get a helmet and goggles for 40 minutes on a quad, shared two to a bike, in a line behind a guide over the plateau’s tracks. Then comes a 15-minute camel ride, timed for the last light. Dinner is served in the camp’s tents after dark, with live Moroccan music, and the fire show closes the evening before the drive back. The whole outing takes about 7 hours. The per-person price, checked in November 2026 at $23 in current promotion (usually $46), covers the transport, the guide, the quad and camel rides, the cooperative visit, dinner with water, the music and the fire show.
What is performed
Nothing on these evenings is a village festival: it is a show put on for the camp’s guests, all at once, and it is fun on those terms. The programme is much the same from camp to camp. Musicians play through dinner, often Gnawa music, the trance-like rhythm of iron castanets and a three-string bass lute. Most add folk dancing, and one overnight camp lists belly dancing, live guitar and a dance floor too. The finale is the fire show: performers spin and juggle flames in the dark, which is the moment most phones come out.
Is it worth it, honestly
For the price, yes. Few things in Marrakech fill an evening this well for so little, and the light over the plateau at sunset is lovely. Go in knowing four things the recent reviews keep repeating:
- It is busy. The popular camps host several coaches at once, so there can be a wait for the quads or the camels, and dinner is served to long tables.
- The rides are short. The quad is shared two to a bike and goes in convoy; the camel ride is about 15 minutes, more a photo than a trek.
- The pickup can move. Operators sometimes change the pickup time or place by WhatsApp the evening before or on the day. Give a number you check, and read your messages.
- The sunset is not guaranteed at dinner. Depending on the timing of your group, you may watch it from the quad or the camel rather than from the table.

Marrakech to Agafay: the road
Measured on the road network, the camps are 31 to 38 km from Jemaa el-Fna, depending on which one your operator uses, and the drive takes 45 minutes to an hour in a minibus. The road leaves the city to the south-west, passes Tameslouht and heads out onto the plateau; the reservoir at Lalla Takerkoust lies a few kilometres south of the camp area. Every evening on this page includes the transport both ways, which is much of what the price buys, since the evening ends after dark, far from the city.
Winter nights on the plateau
From November to March, the cold surprises people. Marrakech’s average January low is about 6°C (43°F), by the 1991 to 2020 averages for the city’s Menara weather station, and the camps sit out in the open with no city around them. The quad ride after sunset and the minibus back after 10 pm are the cold parts. Bring a warm jacket, a hat and a scarf, which also keeps the quad dust out of your face, and wear closed shoes. In summer it is the other way round: the afternoon is hot, and dinner under the sky is the comfortable part of the day.
Agafay or the Sahara?
If you came to Morocco for sand dunes, Agafay will not give you them. The tall dunes of Erg Chebbi at Merzouga are about 560 km away, and even the smaller dunes near Zagora need two days. Our Sahara day trip guide sets out what one day can reach, and the 3-day Merzouga trip is the classic way to the real desert. If you have one free evening and want to get out of the city, the Agafay dinner show is the easy answer; for a free day instead, the Ourika valley and Essaouira day trips are the other two short escapes. For tonight or tomorrow, check availability for the Agafay evening.

What Agafay Evening Guests Say
"- At $21 USD, it's an excellent value: transportation, quad bike rides, camel ride, dinner and fire show! - FYI: we go to a camp and not really the Agafay desert according to Google. - Our guide Rida kept up a decent pace and helped coordinate the different pieces, even though he wasn't very chatty otherwise. - I went at the earliest 1 PM slot but by the end, all groups coalesce at dinner and the fire show so it just means the earlier group can be a little more chill."

Agafay Dinner Show: Questions Before You Book
What people ask Google about an evening in the Agafay desert, answered for a night out from Marrakech.
Yes, as an evening out of the city, not as the Sahara. Agafay is a stony plateau with low hills and the High Atlas on the skyline, 31 to 38 km from Jemaa el-Fna by road. The tours pack a quad ride, a short camel ride, sunset, a Moroccan dinner and a music and fire show into about seven hours, for less than a nice dinner in the medina. The big camps host many groups at once, so expect a lively, staged evening rather than solitude. If that suits you, the featured evening covers all of it in one booking.
The camps sit 31 to 38 km from Jemaa el-Fna by road, depending on the camp, which is about 45 minutes to an hour in a minibus. The road heads south-west out of the city past Tameslouht towards Lalla Takerkoust and its lake; the camps are spread over the plateau north-west of the lake. The map on this page shows the road and the camp area.
No. Agafay is a hamada, a plateau of stones and bare hills, right on the edge of Marrakech. The Sahara's sand seas are far to the south-east: the Erg Chebbi dunes at Merzouga are about 560 km from the city, and the smaller dunes near Zagora are six to seven hours away. If the picture in your head is a ridge of orange sand, you need a 2- or 3-day trip, which our Sahara day trip guide explains.
Agafay, on the city's south-western edge, 31 to 38 km away by road. It is a stony desert, not a sandy one, so it gives you the open horizon, the sunset and the desert-camp evening without the long drive. The nearest real sand dunes are around Zagora, six to seven hours away, which is why the shortest dune trip from Marrakech takes two days.
Most visitors come for an evening that strings several things together: a quad bike ride over the plateau's tracks (30 to 50 minutes on the tours we compared, usually two people per quad), a camel ride of about 15 minutes at sunset, dinner in a tented camp and a show of Moroccan music, dancing and fire. Some camps add a swimming pool in the daytime, buggies, or a night in a tent. The comparison table shows which evening includes what.
Yes. Several camps take guests for the night, and the overnight tours from Marrakech add a tent, breakfast and a sunrise to the same dinner and show. One we looked at, the Agafay Desert Retreat, Tent, Dinner, Show and Pool, includes dinner, the show, a tent, breakfast and a transfer back at 10:30 the next morning. On that one the camel ride is offered at the camp and the quad costs extra, so check what each evening includes before you pick.
In Agafay, but not on the busiest evenings, which feed big groups at long tables. For something quieter, look for a smaller dinner format: the Agafay Desert Sunset Dinner and Stargazing evening is guided in English only, with a campfire, live music and a light show, and no quad or camel ride. An overnight stay at a camp with a pool is the other way to make the evening slower. Prices rise with the comfort, so compare the inclusions.
In layers, with closed shoes. The quad ride is dusty, so a scarf or buff for your face and sunglasses help, and closed-toe shoes make the quad ride easier. The afternoon can be hot, but the plateau cools quickly after sunset: in January Marrakech's average night-time low is about 6 degrees C (43 F), and the camps are out in the open, so bring a warm jacket for dinner and the drive back.
In winter, yes, more than people expect. Marrakech's January nights average about 6 degrees C (43 F) at the city's Menara weather station, and on the open plateau, away from the city, the evening feels colder, especially on the quad and in the minibus back after 10 pm. From November to March, bring a warm layer, a hat and something for your hands. In summer the evenings are warm and the dinner outdoors is the comfortable part of the day.
Most evenings with dinner, a camel ride and the show cost about $11 to $30 per person on GetYourGuide, checked November 2026, and several listings were in promotion at half their usual price. The quad-and-camel evenings sit at the top of that range, a night in a tent costs more, and extras such as activity upgrades, soft drinks or the camp pool are paid on the day. The calendar shows the live price for your date.
A set Moroccan dinner: salads or soup to start, a tagine (often chicken), couscous with vegetables, bread and fruit or a sweet to finish, with mint tea. Water comes with dinner on the featured evening; soft drinks are extra on several others. Vegetarian and gluten-free meals are offered on the main evenings, and it is worth mentioning yours when the operator confirms your pickup.
Pickups in Marrakech run from about 2 pm to 4 pm on the quad-and-camel evenings, timed so the activities end around sunset; on the stargazing dinner, winter pickups start at 2:30 pm and summer ones at 4 pm. Dinner and the show follow after dark, and you are back in Marrakech at about 10 pm, later if your hotel is outside the centre. The exact pickup time and place arrive by WhatsApp: some operators send them the evening before, others on the day.
Live Moroccan music during dinner, then a short performance programme. Expect Gnawa music, folk dancing and a fire show on the main evenings; one camp adds belly dancing, fire juggling and live guitar. It is a staged show for visitors, put on for the whole camp at once, and the fire show is usually the finale. It is entertainment rather than a cultural performance in a village.
Yes, book before the day: the operators plan their pickup runs in advance, and the main evenings allow free cancellation up to 24 hours ahead, so booking early costs nothing if your plans change. When you book, give a WhatsApp number, because that is where the pickup time and place arrive. If you are staying in a riad inside the medina, the minibus cannot reach it, and you will be met at the nearest accessible meeting point.
